Thank You for Your Interest in Coaching!
Our Coaches are the heart and soul of our volunteer movement. Over 500 dedicated individuals volunteer their time and talents, many year-round, to provide our athletes with optimal training opportunities and other life-enriching experiences.
Getting Started
Step 1: Complete the Coach Interest Form
Start by completing our Coach Interest Form. You’ll be asked to select:
- The sport(s) you're interested in coaching
- The county or area where you’d like to volunteer
- Your contact information and availability
Once submitted, a member of our team will review your information and reach out with the sport schedule & connect you with the appropriate Area or Sport Director.
Step 2: Create Your Volunteer Account
Next, create your Special Olympics Delaware Volunteer Account. This account allows us to manage your volunteer profile, certifications, and communications.
- Please upload a headshot when creating your account. We use your photo to create your Class A Volunteer Badge, which you'll use at practices and competitions.
Step 3: Complete Your Class A Volunteer Certification
All coaches must complete the following requirements before working directly with athletes.
Required for All Coaches
- Complete the Protective Behaviors Certification.
- Complete the Heads Up Concussion Certification
- Agree to the Volunteer Code of Conduct.
Required for Volunteers Ages 18+
- Successfully complete a criminal background check.

You don’t have to wait! You can create your SO Learn account and complete your required training courses now.
Completing your Certifications early helps speed up the onboarding process so you’re ready to coach as soon as you’re matched with a team.
- Register for a new SO Learn account.
- Search for Protective Behaviors and Heads Up: Concussion in Youth Sports.
- Self-enroll in each course and complete the training.

What Happens Next?
After you've submitted your interest form and completed your volunteer account, our Volunteer Team will:
- Review your information.
- Reach out with the sport schedule to ensure it’s a good fit
- Connect you with the appropriate Area or Sport Director.
- Guide you through any remaining certification requirements.
- Welcome you to your new team!
