Special Olympics Delaware offers programing starting at age 2 with no upper age limit. Our goal is to empower those with intellectual disabilities through the joy of sport.
To serve athletes of all ages and abilities we offer a variety of programs within the community and within schools.
Ages 2 - 7
YOUNG ATHLETES
Young Athletes™ is an inclusive sports play program for children ages 2 through 7. It prepares them for future participation in sports while improving gross motor, social and cognitive skills.
Registration Forms
In order to participate in any Special Olympics sports, athletes must have a valid registration form on file.
Ages 8 and older
SPORTS IN THE COMMUNITY
Special Olympics Delaware offers sports training and competition in 15 Olympics-style individual and team sports over four seasons completely free of charge.
Athletes train for approximately 8-10 weeks in one sport per season and can then participate in a qualifying event and a State Tournament in that sport. Athletes SIGN-UP to participate in a sport with their area team.
Special Olympics Delaware is divided into 5 Community Area Teams. Athletes are assigned an area team based on geography of their home address. Once a form is submitted staff will connect the athlete with the appropriate area team.
Unified Sports® brings together people with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team. Special Olympics Delaware offers many opportunities to Play Unified through both community-based and school-based programs.
Registration Forms
In order to participate in any Special Olympics sports, athletes must have a valid registration form on file. Athletes must renew their registration form every 3 years.
SCHOOL-BASED SPORTS
UNIFIED CHAMPION SCHOOLS
Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools uses sports as a catalyst to promote social inclusion. This program fosters inclusive mindsets among students with and without intellectual disabilities, spanning from pre-K through college. The result is the creation of meaningful and lasting connections between all students.
