MOTOR ACTIVITY TRAINING PROGRAM (MATP)
The Motor Activities Training Program (MATP) is an individualized program designed to give athletes with severe or profound intellectual disabilities the opportunity to demonstrate their unique physical skills.
Who is MATP design for?
The Motor Activities Training Program (MATP) is designed to prepare athletes with severe or profound intellectual disabilities, including athletes with significant physical disabilities, for sport-specific activities appropriate for their abilities.
Individualized Activities
The MATP individualizes motor activity instruction so that persons with severe disabilities can participate in appropriate recreation activities geared to their ability levels. By incorporating appropriate levels of modifications and participation, skills are developed in areas of mobility, dexterity, kicking, striking, manual/electric wheelchair movement, and aquatics.
After The Training Season
Upon completion of their training season athletes participate in showcases where they demonstrate their personal best efforts either as part of a site-based Challenge Day or as a part of a larger Special Olympics event.
